The photo was taken in The Free State, which is open savannah type country and very windy at times. So, the use of your scope covers was an asset in keeping lenses free of dust. The shots are typically long 200-300 yards, though there are patches of tall grass (6′ or higher) which can also provide some snap shooting—–again making the use of your lens covers very helpful. This specific animal was shot at about 220 yards and the client had time to remove the covers prior to shooting. Hope this helps.
